The rumours are flying now, given apparently the launch is quite imminent. The two that seem to be gathering traction are

1) A home button fingerprint detector. That's to going to start a certain argument up again at all.

2) A 2560 * 1440 screen. That's mad. That's the same resolution as the 27 inch monitor I'm typing this on.

Already in the works apparently. Utterly ludicrous.

I can see the benefit of being able to send a 4k film to a 4k TV via something like AppleTV but on a screen less than 6 inches?

4K film files are sodding massive. The last thing you'd want to be doing is carting them round on a phone with limited capacity you also use for music, recording video & taking photos etc. It is purely willy waving and has no practical application whatsoever.

Yes you are right. Though it will appeal to some. When the eyes struggle above 300dpi they will find it hard to tell how much better it really is. You would need a massive boost in storage capacity as well, and that will boost tgge cost up considerably. Also how will developers cope writing to adapt to so many different screen resolutions?

So it's out. Remember that EU ruling about micro-USB ports that Apple was so obviously going to have to fall in line with at some point because absolutely everybody else was?

Is that because it's USB3, or... :?

Either way, it's yet another bloody wire

USB 3 should be plug compatible with USB 2 cables, they would just plug into the right hand side of the connector in the image shown. You just won't get the speed benefits of the full USB 3 standard.

Are we facing a new problem: a Peak Phone crisis?

It is probably that the markets are close to saturation and that the only reason to but a new phone is because it has either a new feature or their existing phone is old or broken.

If I didn't have to carry a company smartphone, I probably wouldn't have one at all. I just need something that plays my podcasts and audio books. Other than that, a simple mobile phone is all I want.

Why not get a simple iPod shuffle? Or another MP3 player?

I probably will, but as I have to carry the company phone, I don't see the point in carrying 2 devices.
