I need to come up with recommendations for a file server indexing system. The solution(s) need to scan the server and index the files. Personally I'd like a proper document management system, but I am supposed to be looking for a plug-in alternative that will help search the existing terrabytes of documents. |

The type of solution will really depend on the answer to the question. "Is there a taxonomy already in existence and applied to the documents?". If not then the best you can hope to do is point a search engine at them as structured searching will be effectively ruled out. Possible approaches would be sharepoint, its search engine isn't bad these days ( uses Autonomy I believe ) or maybe a google box. |

Yeah, I keep saying Sharepoint, but Linux programmers seem to have something against MS based solutions. I thought Google had stopped selling the Google boxes. Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk |

So, Google appliance works out at around $30K for 2 years... SearchBlox looks interesting, has some nice bonus features that Google doesn't have, costs a more reasonable $5K a year. Also looking at Apache Lucene and I've managed to google a few others as well... |

If you go that route I would be interested in how it goes.
had a horrendous experience with this last time I used it. |

Yeah, Lucerne on its own doesn't seem to have a good rep, although being open source it is getting support here. SearchBlox seems to be a complete system based on Lucerne. |
