Perhaps some of you will be more plugged in with this than I am. I thought I read something about a tariff with Orange/EE that allowed you to use all of your allowances (minutes, texts AND data) throughout Europe, if you spent enough money monthly. Can't seem to find anything on it now though.
Anybody know of such an option with any network? I need to be able to roam freely as I change countries every 6 months or so, and I don't mind having a contract if it allows me total freedom wherever I work.

Vodafone charge you £3 per day in Europe (geographical Europe, not just EU Europe) to use your minutes and texts that come with your package. (No idea if your package data allowance is included or not). I'm assuming they only charge you that if you actually use any minutes, rather than just having your phone on. I've opted out of that, so if I make calls here (I'm in Norway) I don't pay the £3 per day, but I will pay the full roaming call costs. I've also asked Vodafone to disable data roaming on my account so there are no nasty surprises with huge data bills. Now I can happily have my phone switched on abroad knowing it won't cost me a fortune on the rare occasions I use it.

Not a great deal when Three offer you it for free. I do think that a £3 a day fee adds up over a 2 week holiday.

Exactly why I opted out. Actually I'm at work.

Actually guys, I'm at work too.
£3 a day is massively expensive. I'm looking at full on usage of minutes, data and texts as I would in the UK. Anything less is no use to someone who spends 6 weeks a year in the UK...

For £3 a day you could get a local sim only contract.

Or switch to 3 which is still near unlimited (something like 30gb data cap abroad)

What's the 3 coverage like in the UK, and what about their customer service?

Oh wait, not happening... So basically, it's local SIM or give up.

The customer service is pretty good. When I had a problem with my iPhone 13 months into the contract they offered to pay for the replacement, though hard work to convince them. In the end it turned out to be a battery problem and was covered by the Apple warranty. So all okay but they did help. My monthly bill is quite high and no problems with payment so not really an issue for them.
