I'm thinking of putting the following 2Gb stick into my Advent 4211 netbook:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-667MHz ... 804&sr=1-1

Shouldn't be a problem should it, or is there anything else I should know? This is the same sort of stick that was recommended in the tutorial I read... It'll bring me up to 3Gb in total, 'Doze XP should be OK with that shouldn't it? :?

Does the Advent have 2 slots? My HP mini only had one, so it now has 2GB and I stuck the old 1GB SOD into my Tosh.

Seems to, going by the tutorial. Even if it doesn't I'll do the same as you, only I'll give the older stick to my mate if he can use it (netbook's the only portable PC in the house at the mo')...

The Advent 4211 will only take a maximum of 2Gb of Ram in it's single slot so you need to replace the existing 1Gb stick with a 2Gb stick as per your link.

I didn't see that anywhere in my link :?

But to cut a long story short, I'm looking into it further and will be running CPU-Z on the machine first anyway... That should tell me the maximum shouldn't it? :?

Crucial link for the 4211 shows a single memory slot for DDR2-667 and a maximum of 2GB, and here's how to change it

Some notebooks have fixed memory (normally 512mb) with an expanding slot for upgrade of 1gb (1.5GB total), I believe and the evidence is point to the Advent 4211 which has the same guts as the MSI Wind is supplied with 1 x 1gb module in it's single slot with the capacity of 2gb if upgraded.

We're now up to a snappier 2Gb after much cursing at fiddly-arse screws, super-tight RAM slots and everything generally being too small for my comedy shovel hands :D
