Can anyone recommend any? I'm looking at the Bose Soundlink mini for £169 at the moment. Want something that doesn't take up much room that I can use in the kitchen but if it's portable too that would be added bonus.

Thanks

You need separate speakers for that no? Buying 2 devices kind of defeats my objective.

Quote:
Stream music with AirPlay.
AirPlay takes the music from the iTunes library on your computer or iOS device and sends it wirelessly to any connected stereo or speakers in your home (audio cable sold separately). Play music on one set of speakers — or if you have more than one AirPort Express connected to speakers, play your music from iTunes on all of them at the same time.

This is the one I'm looking at:

Bose® SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth Speaker

Don't buy Bose!

B&W make some good stuff that acts as a dock; that would probably be my first port of call.

I'm picking up one of these tomorrow: http://audiodynamix.co.uk/the-pulse-2
Perhaps I'll let Mr Lumb have a listen and see what he thinks of it.

*Disclosure - the owner and designer of the company has just completed a degree with us, and I'm getting a healthy discount. ;)

Why not? It's had very good reviews

Whilst I've not listened to that specific item before, I've listened to quite a lot of Bose kit and it's all been overpriced [LIFTED].

Well my new toy is home, and so far I'm quite pleased.
Being able to skip tracks from the unit itself is good, and it's got what I'd consider quite a 'big' sound for a small unit. It's quite weighty. Jon, I'm sure, would be able to give a better review.

Considered a Beats Pill?

My daughter has one which impressed me so much I bought one 2nd hand off Fleabay and am delighted with the results.

I paid £58 delivered (it's the original model not the "Mark 2").

Bluetooth connectivity, good range (>5 meters), OS agnostic and can also be used as a speaker phone. Plenty of volume. Tracks controlled from your devise (Mac/PC, Smartphone, Tablet, whatever).

Oh! It's VERY portable - even in a small handbag, once you've removed the kitchen sink, according to she who must be obeyed!

HTH.

Ian.

I bought a Beats Pill (mk2) because I'd received an amazon voucher for £50. Has an onboard battery that can be recharged via USB or via mains adapter (that has USB slot - like iphone chargers). I can connect to it via bluetooth. Lasts reasonably well without a charge. It is small (about 6-7 inches), very thick (about 6 inches circumference) and heavy for what it is. If you put it in your handbag, you'd know about it. Not small enough to hide in your pocket but certainly in your backpack.

Now it's made by Dr Dre who believes the essence of music lies in the beat and hence the bass is increased. Not a big problem for me but might be annoying depending on which music you listen to.

Dr Dre Beats Pill - Mk 1

Best I can tell the difference twixt Mk1 and Mk2 is that the Mk2 is software upgradable. That's not an issue for me.

Dimensions Mk1 (best I'm aware Mk2 is same or very similar)
Diameter: 2 inches (5cm)
Length: 7½ inches (19cm)
Weight: 325 grams (<12ozs) - according to User Manual.

What you DON'T get with (most) Fleabay purchases:
Mains Charger (rapid) - available for £15 delivered from HERE
Portable Case - available for £9.99 delivered from HERE (currently only Red or Black available).
User Manual - downloadable HERE
Headphones - not downloadable (if only!) *cough*.

What you DO get with (most) Fleabay purchases:
1 x Beats Pill (Mk 1?)
1 x USB charging cable (all you need if you have a mains adaptor).
1 x AUX Input/Output cable.

There's somebody on Fleabay selling [a Silver or White Mk1(?)] for £44 delivery, I think!

Brand New Mk1 (red), complete kit (USA mains charger) £59.99 + £4.89 delivery.

HTH.

PS - cloaked_wolf - "If you put it in your handbag, you'd know about it."
You must be joking, right? Try picking up your wife's, girlfriend, sister's normal handbag sometime!
:D

I have and it would still weight it down. Not by a massive amount.
