Gruber's ThoughtsI have no idea of the possible accuracy of his predictions about what the Apple Watch may or may not do when it finally ships, but I think his analysis of the likely price of the three models is pretty hard to argue against. The short version : The gold Apple Watch will be pant-wettingly expensive. Not because it's an Apple product but simply because
it's made out of gold. Watches made out of solid gold (as oppose to plated) cost thousands of pounds, from pretty much every manufacturer that makes them. The raw material costs are simply massive. So the 'edition' watches are going to cost an awful lot of money, would have cost almost as much with no electronics inside them at all, and the tech press will completely fail to understand this point and go utterly bat-[LIFTED] mental when the full price range is finally announced.
To be honest I still don't really feel any desire to have one. But I very much suspect that even if I did, the top end ones will be well out of any reasonable person's price range.
