Hi,

My daughter has this laptop. Toshiba Satellite Pro c50-a-1e2

It has 32 MB of Video RAM which the Internet says can be increased to 1,771 MB but I'm damned if I can find a way of doing it,

The reason I need to increase the amount of shared RAM is that the little treasure wants to play the latest SIMS game, but it needs 128 MB of Video RAM.

This is probably not relevant but I upgraded the system RAM from 4 GB to 6 GB.

Any ideas, anyone?

By the way, buying a new laptop is not an option.

you used to be able to change memory allocation via the BIOS but you also may have a Toshiba Hardware utility from the Toshiba Console. It may also accessible (as 'HWSetup') from the Windows Control Panel ...

Thanks Steve. I'd already tried them, but it doesn't give the option to change the amount of shared RAM. I'll keep looking.

Edit to add:

Just to prove I'm not losing my marbles...

So, it can be increased... right?

What do the video properties say? My Atom based tablet says up to 980MB, with 0MB dedicated.

Theoretically it should dynamically allocate as much as is needed. But the manufacturer can set a specific amount or a specific maximum amount.

You used to do it in the BIOS, but I know that Toshiba are awkward buggers and usually you have to do the normal, simple BIOS changes using a dedicated Toshiba utility.

I haven't got access to the laptop at the moment, but I managed to get the game working, after a lot of messing about so I'm quitting while I'm ahead, for now. I may return to this problem at some stage but for now life has more pressing issues to resolve.

Thanks for your help, everyone.
