There is an official Windows Phone app on the mac app store. I'm not entirely sure what it's capabilities are though.

Thanks I'll give it a go. I'll need to pull off text messages for court evidence too *sigh* This phone is so crap it displayed the reply to a text before the original question was even sent but the date and time are there. Very odd!

If it is connected to OneDrive, then it backs up automatically. You could try talking to MS. If it is corporate, I'm not sure if it backs everything up to the server.
Otherwise there are companies that specialise in phone forensics. If it is for court, then a normal backup might not be admissible.

Onedrive? Phone forensics? This my boyfriend's phone. I have upgraded him to my old iPhone 4. However he will need to get his contacts and texts off the phone and no they are not on the sim. I've managed to pull off pictures, videos and music using the windows phone app for mac but there are no options for anything else. Feel like throwing this pile of [LIFTED] out of the window already. Now I know why I love Apple and haven't touched a Nokia phone for years.

Then everything should be synced with his Microsoft OneDrive/ Outlook account. Contacts will be in his outlook contacts and if you set up his Outlook account on the iPhone SDK his mails, contacts and calendars will automatically be synced to the iPhone.
You mentioned texts for court evidence, hence the remark about phone forensics. A normal backup of texts is normally not admissible.
Funny, I feel exactly the same about Apple phones, which is why I have the Nokia.
On the point of texts, I've never bothered backing them up and taking them with me. I always start with a clean slate with a new phone. That probably comes from the old days where phones could only hold a few texts, so I was constantly deleting them to make room for new ones.

Turns out the contacts were not a problem as the police already have his last 2 phones so more or less sorted out. If they need to see the texts they can look at the phone I guess.
Thanks for your help.
