Hi all

My current graphics card is a 6/7 year old HD 4870 but it has always been a bit dodgy, most games just crashing to a blue screen after 5 to 10 mins :( . I have now had enough and am looking to change the card.

Not sure what other info you guys might need. MOBO is an Asus P5 Deluxe (LGA 775). So not sure if I would need to change the whole MOBO or not.

Any thoughts or suggestions for a replacement would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Looking here - see the last page fro where you card is
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-graphics-card-review,review-33056.html

Then its just a case of whats the budget - but even thier low end card is a few iterations of technology / performance higher

Just make sure that
- your case has the room to fit it as some of the higher spec ones can be very long
- that your PSU has enough power to run it - again some of the higher spec ones need extra power

Thanks for that hifidelity2 very useful.

One question my mono is only PCI-E 2.0 so would a card like a Radeon r7 260X which is PCI-E 3 be compatible.

Thanks

Yes it will work - they are backward compatable. PCI 3.0 has a greater bandwidth but nothing really uses the full capacity of PCI 2.0 yet

Thanks again, that at least opens up my choices. :?

Any recomendations with a budget of around £150.00, AMD or Nvidia?

I have no personal beef to one manufacture or the other. Personally I would use Toms recommendation within your price bracket and then maybe cross ref with another sites reviews just to be one the safe side

Looks like GTX770 2GB or R9 280 3GB for £150 at Overclockers

I'd be inclined to go with the Nvidia

Have you got a link for these, please? I'm giving serious consideration to getting a graphics card.

VTX3D R9 280 3GB Dual-X Cooler 960MHz Core (free games promo)

Sapphire R9 280 3GB Dual-X Cooler 940MHz Core (free games promo)

The promotion on the GTX770 looks like it's ended and the cheapest model is now £179.99

The GTX760 is available for under £150 and this Gigabyte modelhas bumped core and shader clocks over some of the other models
