Just looking for some answers and advice.

I'm thinking of making some YouTube video tutorials and wondering what some of the high follower channels use for recording. I have literally no idea.

Was wondering how people like JackSepticEye and PewDiePie record stuff.

For instance. When recording on the camera do they have a separate audio and video feed that are synced in post or do they just have a single av feed (like something that I could do on my iPhone).

Also, for doing screencasts what software is available for doing that? I know I can use QuickTime Player but wondering if that suitable? I guess so?

Anyone got any experience? Would love some tips.

I can't comment on hardware setups, but I do know a lot of serious tutorial makes use this :- http://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm

Thanks guys. I'd heard about screenflow elsewhere so giving that a go. Also my brother recommended it.

Just need to work on actually creating them now. Lol.

If you're covering gameplay or something on a console, then there's dedicated HDMI recorders that'll save straight to a H264 file.
If you're wanting to do more iOS specific stuff, remember that Yosemite has some useful tools to record screen activity baked in.
For general editing duties, Lightworks is free (although limited to outputting a 720p H264 file in the free version) and will let you do the picture in picture video blog stuff.

Cool thanks. I went and bought a Logitech 1080p camera today and re did my first video. I think my dad has a license for Screenflow so that should be handy.

Also, I moved my bedside lamp onto my desk for some front lighting and it looks a million times better. Also with the camera now on the top of the monitor.

Got a nice USB mic from a friend. Borrowing it until I get my own.

With Screenflow I can now do 3 video inputs (screen, iPhone screen and new camera) and an audio input.

Can all be edited in Screenflow too :-)

I'm happy with the first video now. Just need to get Wh Screenflow license to remove the watermark. Lol!
