Hi,

The only reason I'm asking this is that I'm a little bored and... well that's it really!

I did do a quick search, but couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know how to make the Linux desktop look like OS/X, with the icons at the bottom of the screen and... all of the other happy shiny stuff you hget on a Mac desktop.

This isn't a rhetorical question, and I will re-install Linux so any distribution specific stuff is fine, and I don't care if it's KDE/Gnome/Whatever.

Thanks!

:)

There's a program that will do it for you.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/

Make sure you have Compiz enabled and if you want a dock I recommend Avant Window Navigator (AWN).

As a point of interest which distribution are you using?

VELLA! That doesn't look much like a spreadsheet!

I've finished the spreadsheet but thank you for trying to keep me out of trouble. :)

Would that be fairly simple to install on my openSuse machine?

Should be, the tarball has an install script in there. Run it in a terminal and follow the prompts. Depends whether you are running Suse with KDE or Gnome. It is intended for the gnome desktop as far as I can tell.

Yes it's designed for GNOME.

Well.... I've had limited success with Fedora OpenSuse and Mandriva. I have now managed to get the docking thing at the bottom of the screen to display, but the amount of work required was... a bit too much for my liking. Currently downloading the 64 Bit Ubuntu DVD and I'll try that tonight.

What the hell do I have these stupid ideas anyway? ;) :P

You can install Avant separately and delete the bottom bar. You should be able to double click on the .sh install script once you've extracted the tarball into your home folder. In ubuntu you get a box up that says "run" or "run in a terminal" - pick the terminal option and keep pressing Y when it asks you.

Bear in mind that you might need to make the script executable first using the chmod +x command.

At which point you might as well just run
Code:
bash <install_file>
and then you'll not need to make it executable
