Sipgate is the big name, although most ISPs seem to be offering it as part of the package here, when you get broadband.

I think that aside Skype; which in itself uses a self created SIP (VoIP) protocol; I can't think of another SIP SP unless you're able to create your own SIP capability via Asterisk and enjoy the thought of having configure it yourself to route telephone marketing customer service advisers to an audio file of your choice once Asterisk routes it; that being said it does allow the creation of permitted and restricted telephone numbers to both be able to use and receive telephone calls from and to; which could be useful in the aforementioned situation; I've always thought it'd be hilarious to redirect telephone marketing telephone calls to an audio file of an episode of Spooks or that they've just contacted the Prime Minister's COBRA HQ or similar; or just to make them aware that I'm not interesting in whatever they're going to attempt to convince I'm requiring.

LOL, I'd forgotten this post.

I now work for a UK based telecommunication solutions provider, and we can supply SIP solutions.

We usually give the phones away free, and then it's a few pounds a month rental. If you have more than one phone, they can work as extensions as if they were on a local PBX. They support queuing messages, voice mail, auto attendant menus, transfer, caller ID, call waiting, call pick-up etc..

We mostly provide UK numbers, but we do have a few Indian and Australian ones too. You can have a UK number in Spain if you want. That would give "local" calls to and from the UK, but you wont get on-site maintenance from us!

Sorry if that sounds too much like blatant advertising. Of course, there are many other providers available in this highly competitive market.

Skype uses their own VoIP protocol, it IS NOT a SIP protocol. ;)

Although they do now offer SIP connectivity so that you can have Skype lines on PBXs. It's in Beta:

I can reccomend Voiptalk.org

they will give you a voip line for free that supports two channels (2 incoming, 2 outgoing or one of each simultaneously). You just pay for call credit to make calls (receive is free) and its considerably cheaper than BT phone call costs.
