Hello all, In the last couple of months, my HP laptop has gone through three power bricks, all of which have mysteriously died overnight. The replacement ones are genuine HP and of the correct voltage, so I can't see any reason why I should be going through so many. Would there be an underlying cause that is causing this problem? Thanks, Peter. |

Do you have a mains filter or just plugged straight into the mains? There may be an appliance in your house that is sending power surges through the mains that is blowing the PSU. |

It's just plugged straight into the mains, but I hope there's nothing wrong with my wiring because it's all fairly new. How would I test for such a problem, please? Thanks, Peter. |

Try using a suge protector. HP chargers are usually quite reliable |

I think I have a HP 19v charger here. Not sure, mightve given it away. I'll have a look in a bit. Does the laptop have a battery in it? Sometimes if you use a laptop batteryless for a long period of time it knackers the charger up. Did on my last laptop anyway. |

I do have a few surge protectors handy, but I didn't think it was necessary really. I'll buy a new power brick and connect it up with a surge protector in place, which may help.
Unfortunately, this particular laptop requires a HP 18.5V charger, which aren't easy to find. Good idea about the battery, but it does have a working battery in it, yes. Thank you, Peter. |

How old is the laptop? Isn't it covered by warranty? |

Those were my initial thoughts, but when I dug out the receipt, I actually purchased it in 2000! ![]() Do you think the laptop could have some sort of fault that it causing this? In the last month, I have had to replace the power brick, hard drive, motherboard, screen hinges and outer shell. Peter. |

At least the dvd drive was a good one. Might be cheaper to get a new laptop at this rate. |

That's what I fear. I think I'll try one more power brick, with a surge protector, just to be sure. Thanks all, Peter. |
