Any suggestions for keeping folders hidden?

Delete all your porn and keep it on a USB stick.

Make the first character a full stop?
So "myfile.txt" becomes ".myfile.txt"

EDIT: Works with folders too :)
"mydir" becomes ".mydir"

Hmmm, it would appear you might not be able to name it with a leading period in Finder :?
I did in in Terminal...I'll have to see how to do it otherwise...

OK, I'm doing this under 10.6 and I'm not 100% how much of this will be the same under Leopard (although it'll still be possible).

Open Automator and create a new workflow (under SL create a new service and just follow the pic I've posted).
Add the "Get selected Finder items" from the Finder menu to the work flow. Next add the "Rename Finder items" to the workflow. Now edit the options of the "Rename Finder items" item to prefix the selected file(s) with a full stop (.) Save it so that it'll pop up with you right click on the file (can't remember how to do this under Leopard). Now you can right click on the file or folder and hide it using the workflow :D

In SL, it looks like this: Clicky

And, so - stupid question alert! - how do you find it again once you've hidden it?

Either use something like Onty/TinkerTool to show hidden files and some apps give you the option to show hidden files and folders when you want o open/save a document.
You could also use the Go > Go to Folder menu item (command-shift-G in Finder) and go to your hidden folder (e.g. /Users/benlavery/Desktop/.myhiddenfolder).

Personally, I'd use the terminal and use `ls -a` to see 'all' files

I've found a great little app called "hide folders" you drag a folder to it and click hide and it vanishes. You then open the app to reveal any folders you've hidden. Then I've discuised the app by renaming it and changing it's icon to look like a mundane tech app you'd not want to use.

That's a pretty cool app then :D
Plus a nice idea about changing the name & icon :D

I really like it, you can still find it through spotlight though. I'll keep it until I find an alternative.

Have you tried creating password protected DMG files? You could hide the DMG file using that program, and have a password on it, with the files inside...Or do you need constant access?
If so, I'm sure there is a way to restrict what spotlight can see....
