I think I know the answer, but I can't find the solution! Here's hoping someone does!

Using IE7 under Windows XP I'm struggling to log on to a banking site - getting a message that it is undergoing maintenance, please try again. BUT, it's been like that for weeks on this machine. If I log on via my lappie, no problem and can log on. If I install Firefox on my machine can log on no problem. So I guess I have a cached page in IE somewhere that is fouling me up. Done all of the internet explore driven delete history and all, but still no joy.

Please somene, where else does IE hide cache pages? Where else should I look?

try going to your banking site welcome page via google then try logging on
if that works create a new bookmark …

Yep, try going to the home page first. Have you bookmarked the login page or your account details page? It could be a blocking mechanism by the bank, because the session has expired...

Try deleting the cache - it should be on the Extras (?) menu or Extras->Internet Options

(?) I've got German Windows here, so the menu name might be different (Options?)

Thanks both - tried both suggestions, and neither solves it.

Presumably the cache sits in a folder - is it C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp? Could I just delete this folder, assuming somehow the deleting the cache from the IE interface is somehow 'missing' something?

Temp is local temporary files. I think it is Temporary Internet or something similar, but yes, under "Local Settings".

You could try ccleaner.

www.ccleaner.com

This will delete any cache or saved sites etc... from IE.

Two question spring to mind.

What version of Internet Explorer are you using on your laptop?

Have you tried using a different browser, (ForeFox, Opera, Safari, etc) to see if that works?

Thanks Fog - when I get home I'll see if I can find ccleaner - as it's freeware and reccommended I'll give it a go!

John - I'm using IE7. WIth Firefox the webpage is fine. (OK, you're going to say 'use Firefox' and maybe I will. But a philospohical requirement to solve a problem makes me want to sort this out!!)

No, I'm not going to say 'use firefox'. That would be the easy answer, but I don't "do" easy ;)

I'm wondering if it's worth trying to uninstall Internet Explorer and... well, that's it! Just uninstall it!

No, only kidding, but seriously, I would try to uninstall IE7, restart the computer then re-install it.

Or maybe upgrade to IE8 ?

All of a sudden my keyboard is being mischevious, machine running slow, IE being awkward. I think I'm going for format c*.* and start again over this weekend.

In terms of IE8, on an Athlon 1.2GHz with 1Gb memory I'm reluctant. (Hey - my machine has lasted 8 1/2 years so far - don't knock it!) I think IE8 would make it expire, but don't know. :?

Opera doesn't work with a lot of banking sites :(
