Post subject:  iPod Touch Video Question

I haven't actually got my iPod Touch to hand, otherwise I would just try this.

OK, does anyone know if I can sync regular .AVI//MPEG video files to my iPod Touch? Or can I only do videos I obtain through iTunes?

Also, am I going to run into problems regarding DivX codecs etc?

I've put videos I've ripped (legitimately) using Handbrake and put them onto my Touch, yes :)

Sorry - at work atm, but I can have a poke about when I get home? Sorry! I seem to recall you have to put them into iTunes, and then it's easy to sync. Just can't rememeber how you get into iTunes. I've just re-read your question, and I'm no longer sure if my answer was any use or not. I read it to mean videos you hadn't purchased through the iTunes store.

You just need to import the videos into iTunes, then sync them with the iPod.

The caveat being, they must be in a format which is playable on the iPod.

Edit: HD video will not be copied across, as the screen is not HD and the processing involved to re-scale the video on the fly would be too much for the iPod processor.

Handbrake has an ipod touch profile and it'll convert pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Pick the source video, give the destination file a name, click on the Ipod touch profile on the right hand side and press go. Import the new file into itunes and sync away.
