The latest CPC's SSD labs has convinced me it is now time jump on the bandwagon.

I'm going for the Crucial 128GB M225. But it has risen in price on the Crucial UK website.

Overclockers are listing the drive for pre-order at £215. clicky

I've never pre-ordered hardware before. Are they obliged to supply at the listed price if I place a pre-order?

They will sell it to you at the price you pre-order it at (although they'll take the money first).

I'd wait for scan to get some in.

Thanks saspro, the price has risen by approx £25 on Curcial's own site (£250), so £215 looked tempting.

I'd be interested on some feedback Spreadie when you’re up and running. Did I read some were that you have to manage the drive and alter the way info is written etc to stop eventual slow down of the drive (if that makes sense)?

The new Indilinx controllers appear to have prevented the slowdown problem, as well as the stuttering.

Longer term performance degradation will be prevented by TRIM support in OSes. Win7 is going to provide native support for TRIM.

I will feedback on my impressions all the same, if you like.

So basically if you use W7 you’ll be able to treat it the same as a HDD, cool.

I've read the labs test of SSD and it seems to me that CPC don't know what they're doing. I have Intel X-25 80gb and in three weeks I had it I have NEVER experienced stuttering that they say it suffers from.

I have read pages and pages on different boards about Intel before I bought it and I have never seen anybody complaining about it.

I am not saying that Intel is the best drive to get or that Crucial isn't worth buying. All I am saying is that CPC are clueless when it comes to testing, especially when they talk about SSDs. And I reapeat: Intel G2s don't suffer from stuttering (unless you're a muppet from CPC) :lol:

I agree that Crucial is probably best bang for buck, just make sure the support for it is up to scratch. Remember SSDs are very young and they need regular firmware updates to get the best out of them. It is worth checking boards to make sure you won't be left on your own if you have problems. OCZ is second to none when it comes to this kind of support...

Interesting. I'm not in the market right at this second, but the price point is starting to get within reach and it's always good to know about this kinda stuff.

I have W7 Pro on pre-order and I'm still considering a new rig/upgrades to go with it over the next few months. An SSD would be a very nice addition, providing they work properly. I'll be reading and watching for a little longer I think.

I can inderstand your point but, with a five year warranty, it looks pretty good to me. In five years time, it's unlikely that I will have any of my existing harddrives.

The warranty's definitely a good point, but I have HDDs that are 10 years old (I like a good caddy ;) ) so I'm still gonna wait a year or two before really considering SSDs.

I do still have my first ever HDD, a mahoosive 40meg IBM monster.

I overclock my main rig pretty heavily, and I'm curious to see the impact of an SSD; as the drive is the obvious performance bottleneck in most systems.
