I'd personally go for the GTX 260 as long as it is the 216 core one - it'll sound less like a hoover than the 4870. What is your budget?

I'd say the 4870, it performs better.

But then I'm an AMD fanboy.

I've had both....

Go for the GTX260, making sure, like Gav said, it's the 216 version.

Unless your getting a custom cooled model, probably not, as you'll be deafened.

For under £140 you could get a 4890 1GB
Clicky
Its a little loud but a lot of card for the money

If the choice is 4870 or GTX260(216) then I'd get the nVidia

Ok cheers guys i think i made my mind up, im gonna spend a lil more and get the 4890.

Reason.. well it has more shaders and its ram is at 3.9GHz its GDDR5 and nvidia is still using the GDDR2 & 3 so their memory clock is a measly 2ghz (GTX 260)

So i think ive chosen :D

cheers for the help :D:)

For £157 you can get a Palit GTX 275 from Novatech, which has a custom cooler..and it's faster than the 4890 and quieter.

Thank you for reminding me that ATi embarrassed Nvidia into dropping prices.
