Post subject: | Snow Leopard File Associations Fix |
Hi, This is a question which should hopefully make a few people scratch their heads. Hopefully, there is an answer out there. In Snow Leopard, Apple junked the file associations meta data. So, instead of a little code telling the OS what app should open the file, the OS goes by the file extension instead. This has lead to some confusion, and upset. For example, for reasons best known to itself, Freeway Actions which I have edited with BBEdit with an extension .fwaction are now not opened by Freeway. Instead, Final Cut Express is claiming ownership (they even have the FCE icon). Using Get Info in Finder to correct this error is actually not making any difference, as the association seems to automagically revert to FCE. Anyone now of a fix for this kind of behaviour? I know I am not alone in this. |

Hmm, according to Apple, get info, select app, change all done... ![]() Have you tried their online support, they are generally very good. |

This works for some files, but not others. It is also a blanket fix. In my example, a Freeway Action is a plain text file with a .fwaction extension. However, not ALL text files are Freeway Actions, it may be that some .fwaction files ARE for the attention of Final Curt Express. |
