I know how to use security permissions in windows on local folders and files, but I've not a clue how to do it on an external HD - and since I've just finished formatting (NTFS) my new one (having recieved it this morning) I am turning to you lot...

The thing is you see, if I lose the lil' bugger, I don't want any nobody to pick it up and have a peruse - not because it'll have particularly sensitive information on, but more because that's my life's worth of money spent on music & movies - not theirs.

So how might one do it? :?

(NB: I'm thinking it needs to be something on the drive itself, since I'm going to want to get at it on this here computer at home, but also into it when it's plugged into my work laptop, etc etc)

EDIT And I'm not bothered by encryption - unless it's "transparent" and decrypts once the drive (or top branch folder on the drive) has been properly accessed.

winrar is the easiest way I would say, but you have to encrypt single folders to save time
