OK. A friend of mine has a Macbook running Tiger (10.4.11), a 900MHz+ processor with 640MB of RAM. It has no Airport, so we're using an Edimax EW-7711UTn to connect to the access point. The driver & software install OK, and a sit survey shows the access point. We can even establish a connection (according to the Edimax software), but it keeps dropping out. When it is connected, we can't get on the internet. Now, a netstat in the Terminal only shows connections to the localhost. A ping to 192.168.x.x (0.1, 1.1 and 2.1) give a "No Route to Host" error. Any ideas? |

Have you configured the network settings in System Preferences > Network - does the Edimax adapter show up in the list of network types or is it recognised under "Airport" category? Either way, have you checked the TCP/IP settings are correct for your router? How far is the Mac from the router? Maybe it's on the verge of the range of the adapter and keeps going in and out of range. What is the range of the adapter, as listed on the packaging? Could also be interference from other sources too. Sorry for all these questions! |

Haven't done that. Will have a look.
We tried with the laptop next the router with 100% signal - same problem. |

try setting the connection up as a static connection on the system using the details that you have already got then see if the connection holds … |
