From the www.murderbox.com thread I have been inspired to tidy up the inside of my PC (cabling and stuff).

Possibly getting a new HSF and PSU whilst I'm at it.

From looking at the stuff on murdebox, the main thing I notice is the lack of cables.

The PSU in my computer has a veritable octopus of cables spewing out of the back. The smallest I can get the to go is about the size of the PSU itself.

Is there a way of removing the unwanted cables from the PSU or adding your own cables instead?

If you look in detail at the murderbox builds, what they've done is take off the outer sheathe (e.g. on the main mb power cable), and then braided each of the 24 odd strands individually.

Do you have a modular PSU, as that will help with keeping cables to a minimum...

The other significant point is that the braiding is the same colour as the internals of the case, meaning it blends in a lot more. I am starting to regret buying a natural brushed aluminium case over a black on now.

Ah, I think that's what I'm after.

I'm guessing that's one where you only plug in the cables that you need?

I'm also looking at the Akasa Arctic freezer extreme to replace the HSF on my CPU.

I'm not going to bother changing the GPU cooling though although I may remove the 8800 GTS and just use the GTX260. (Reduce the power consumption).

What CPU do you have in there?

If it's not too hot, I like to suggest the big Thermalright coolers, as you can run them without a fan at all. Quieter running and one less cable to worry about.

Yes, modular PSUs are the ones where you only plug in what you need.

I've got a C2D E6600 CPu running at clock speeds.

I'll prob get a PSU with a big exhaust fan, something like this...

Would something like this do for the CPU cooler?

CLICKY!

Do I need a thrid party fan with that?

Or is it possible to mount it so the fan on the PSU (directly above it) will draw air up through the fins?

PSU would be fine. I tend to go with Corsair / Enermax but that's because I know they run very quietly.

That's the cooler I use, and without a fan. My PSU is bottom mounted but there is one rear and two top fans and they are fine for keeping everything cold.
