Good news everyone - there is support for your Creative X-FI in the next Ubuntu release. I've installed the Alpha version (upgrade-manager -d) and my X-FI works great. There's no crystaliser as yet, but it means I can finally disable the onboard sound in the BIOS - Hurah!

Looking quite good for an Alpha version so far..

Now that is impressive if they really managed to pull this off. I am downloading it right now to see it myself...

Oh FFS, I sold the thing only a month ago too. Ah well, good excuse to buy a new sound card. :etc:

Ok, I finally got around to trying new Ubuntu and the XFI driver works. However sound quality is pretty poor, especially in 5.1 analog output mode. Stereo is better but still pretty poor. I though that it was due to lack of Crystaliser but nope, Windows with Crystaliser disabled sounds much better than Ubuntu. But it is a start, at least they are working on it...

Hasn't Crystaliser been proven just to be loudness by some Eastern European geek people ?

I put my xfi up for sale on this very forum but might have to keep it if it now works with Ubuntu.

Well, XFI works but very poorly. I don't think anybody would put up with that.
Chrystaliser makes a world of difference to me in Windows and it is definitely worth having...
