Folks

A mate of mine has a really old win95 PC that needs replacing and the small amount of data transferring to a new box, which I will be specifying and sorting out.

No NIC, No USB, No CD writer on old machine.

I'm thinking take the old Hard disk and temporarily stick it in the new machine as a second disk. My main concern is on a cheap new machine will I need to specify anything to ensure that the old pre sata disc will have the relevant connections etc etc.

Thoughts?

Is this the best approach?

Will I need any extra's for it to work?

Other than needing an IDE connection you should be OK I would think. You could always get hold of an external caddy instead of bunging it in the machine - that way you won't need to worry about the mobo having appropriate connections.

+1
I have done this numerous times and as long as there is an IDE connection you are usually ok.

You should be fine. If the new machine doesn't have IDE, you could get a caddy, or one of these, clicky, then just plug it in using USB, I've done it before and it should work...

Yep, I was going to suggest one of the external caddies as well... ;)
