Right just started using word 2007 this week (I much prefer 2003 but that may be because I understand it!). I need a footer and a page number however when I add one the other disapears, how do I get a footer that has text in the lower left whilst still placing a page number in the lower right? I just want basic text nothing fancy. Thanks, Hobgob. |

It's a cludge, but you can whack a table in the footer. |

In the footer, select page number from the design tab and then current position. View the ruler to add a right align tab at the right hand side of the page and then insert a tab between your text and the page number. There may be a simpler way of doing it but this works for me. Hope this helps. |

It is the same as Word 2003, in principle. You can either have page numbers (automatic footer which just has a formatted page number in it) or you can have a custom footer and then insert a page number field into it. That means that you need to insert a field of type page number, as opposed to a page number footer style. |

I think you are confusing a Footer and a Footnote. The former is the area where you would put information like page number, document title, date, etc... The latter is an additional bit of text based on a marker that is in the text (such as an asterisk or something). Click on "Insert - Page Number" and select bottom right. Now you have a footer showing the page number on every page of your doc. Now go back to your main document text. Now click "References - Insert Footnote" this will put a superscript "1" in your document and create a footnote at the bottom of the page where you can write stuff relating to the doc. HTH ![]() |

I don't think so. Word has always supported pre-defined styles for simply putting a page number at the top or bottom of a page, without having to generate a header or footer. Word 2007 makes this even easier to find than versions post Windows 95 did. I think this confuses people, because many have created a footer and inserted a page number field into the footer. Having the Footer and Page Numbers as objects to insert onto the page, as well as having the Page Number field, which can be inserted into the document anywhere, including the header/footer. |

If I try to insert the page number into the bottom right hand corner of the document (an option given to me) it then inserts a footer and puts the page number in it. I don't see how you can put a page number there without it being in a footer? |

There is a pre-defined footer, which inserts the page number, or you can create a free-form footer and add the page number field. The page number object is not the same as the field and if you generate a footer, then select the page number object, instead of the page number field, it will overwrite the footer... |

Oh, I think I get what you mean. He added a footer and then instead of adding the page number to the footer he then went to Insert - Page Number and this replaced the footer with the default page number footer. |
