I'm on windows 7 now, and all of a sudden it's decided to start bsoding on me. As the title says, it's a mcupdate.dll error. googling says this is a mcafee error, but I don't have that awful bloatware anywhere near my pcs. stuck on the ipoT now. ![]() Any ideas? Cheers! |

Can you find that .dll file anywhere on your comp in case something else has installed without your knowledge? If find it can delete it as it should go in to recycle bin if causes more problems. (Update) It is in your windows system folder and is nothing to do with McAfee. Maybe could try booting with win 7 disc in but don't boot into cd, see if it will replace the file if you delete it |

McAfee is now included in the default download for Adobe Reader and Flash Player! You actually have to uncheck it, for it not to be installed, so it might have trojaned its way in through the backdoor... I know I accidentally downloaded it on one machine. ![]() |

Oh god, seriously? That could be classed as illegal, as its installing turds onto your PC that you don't want! ![]() Anyway, I fixed my PC. Booted from Win7 CD, then opened a command prompt. Deleted the old mcupdate.dll, copied a new one, and regsvr'd it. Seems to be working fine. I hope it stays working. |

Seems it's in the process of breaking again. ![]() Every 5 minutes it will whine to me about Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service Configuration Service or something along the lines of that stopping working. I'm this close to upgrading to Windows 2000. |

Why oh why? As much as I love Windows 2000 (long-reigning favourite version of Windows, only surpassed by Vista and now 7), it's out-of-support and a major security risk. Don't you have an XP disc lying about or something? Mind you saying that, there are thousands of idiots still using Windows 95 (even more than using 98, ME and 2000 combined) if PC Pro are to be believed. |

I have nearly every version of windoze here, thanks to my uncle owning a pc shop, but I don't like xp because it's a " stupid" OS. Win2k just worked, whereas so threw a tantrum when you went to update video drivers :/ 2k when fully patched up far surpasses any windows os imo. It's really easy to use and fast as hell in games too. |
