I've had my classic since it was launched about 2 years ago (ish) (09/2007). I haven't plugged it into my mac for a while and it's on version 1.1.2. I normally plug it into my Bose sound dock to charge the battery. However, recently it has started kind of skipping. It's nothing like a CD skipping. It's as though it is pausing for a fraction of a second (very short blip) and then continuing. This can sometimes happen a couple of times in a track or sometimes it will "skip" all the time. It sounds a bit like dust on a vinyl record (if that makes sense). Is there anything I can do to diagnose what is happening with this and fix it? Thanks for any help. |

Hmm. I'd be tempted to connect it to your Mac and restore it using iTunes as a first port of call. |

Why not plug it in to your Mac and see if disk utility can find anything wrong with it? Mark |

Thanks both, I will do that tonight. Stupid question, do I have to back it up before doing a restore or will it just take everything off iTunes again once it's done? Thanks again |

I think that's the long and the short of it. It's how the whole iTunes/iPod ecosystem works. Hope it's nothing too serious. If it turns out the HD is on the fritz there's plenty of stuff out there on repairing and replacing. |

Right, it's been restored and is currently loading everything back on. I did a verify disk thing in disk utility and it all showed OK. I have a sneaking suspicion it could be to do with the fragmentation of data on the iPod. Not sure why though. I guess the proof is in the listening. I will let you all know how it goes... just gimme about 12 hours to get everything back on ![]() Thanks again! |
