Just done a microsite with some flash video. When I launched it, there was a red x where it should have been and the old activeX blocker thing came up on the top bar.

Is there any way round this, or will people know that they have to click to activate the content? It just doesn't seem particularly obvious to non-savvy users. However, if this is the way that all flash video appears to all IE users, then I guess they'd be used to it.

Are you viewing the site online, or locally on the network or hard drive of the PC?

If viewing it locally, you need to (temporarily) enable ActiveX to run locally too. Microsoft sees this as a security risk, so it's disabled by default on Windows. If I can remember, you go to "Internet Options", click on the "Advanced" tab, scroll down to "Security" section and put a tick next to "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer", click Apply, then quit Internet Explorer and launch it again. Once you've finished testing your site, I'd disable the ActiveX from running locally again, just to be on the safe side!

You shouldn't be getting the ActiveX blocking thing if viewing the site online, unless the software you're using isn't producing the correct code for later versions of Internet Explorer. What software did you use to produce the site, or is it hand-coded?

Thanks for that it was being hosted locally, so I think you've nailed it. Posted it online and it works a treat now, cheers.
