As a publicist for two uni societies, it's down to me to sort out the web type stuff as well. However my trial run on Dreamweaver CS3 has run out, and I really can't afford the near £200 bill for an upgrade licence. I'm not particularly savvy with the 'alternative' methods of getting the web editor, and to be frank would rather have something legal. Can you guys recommend an open source alternative that'll suit someone who's been running CS3 for a month? Needs to be compatible with Vista and preferably not require too much learning to use (3rd year student = no spare time). Thanks in advance, Helsing.

Huge question, but are you using it in design view or are you coding. Secondly, are you on a Mac or a PC?

Might be worth checking for an Adobe student version, especially if it's all for uni

Using it in design view mostly, but using the code to find particular bits that design view doesn't seem to work with. I'm a complete novice to coding and don't really have the time to figure out how it works so it's mostly used for the above. Using a PC. Student edition would still set me back a considerable sum, and to be frank I'm not going to make much use of it after this year.

Is it installed on any uni machines? I know it is at Bath, and I think I can even RDP onto a machine hosting it.

It is aye, though not onto any I can access remotely. The problem is that all the resources are here in my house, and there are only 6 pcs in the uni that run dreamweaver so competition for them is quite large. Combined with my work, it is a lot easier to be able to do it at home.

If you can get your hands on a Mac, I'd suggest Freeway. Personally, I'm finding text wrangler, W3schools and this book very handy.

If you consider MS FrontPage as an alternative, then a free alternative to FrontPage is NVU. I've not used it, but I've heard good things...

I have picked up both and am giving them a whirl. Thanks chaps, you've saved me a lot of hassel here.
