I'm just trying 2 new sticks of RAM in my PC. Upgrading from 2GB cheapo (slow speed) RAM to 4GB OCZ Gold Edition DDR2 6400 RAM.

I have an Asus P5N32-e SLI Plus Mobo which can support up to 8GB of RAM.

My previous config was 1GB in A1 and 1GB in B1. Now I have removed them and with the same set up (i.e. 2GB A1, 2GB B1) the system will start up but I get no POST beep and the display never turns on (all the fans are spinning and everything else seems fine.

I have removed the B1 module and it turns on with no problems.

Is there something else I need to do?

I have flashed the BIOS previously and I am on the latest version.

Have you tried both modules in A1 socket to see if one memory chip is faulty?

I would also try a memcheck on each one.

Also, try every possible permutation to see if it isn't just the mobo being fussy.

Just tried that.

It works fine with 2GB in A1 and 2GB in A2 and the BIOS can see the full 4GB.

I've just tried swapping the memory round and I've got them in A1 and B1 now and it has turned on but now I have an error that I saw before...

Are they the same voltage as your old set?

Don't know.

How would I check the voltages are right? ATM I have them set to auto in the BIOS.

Dislodged a power connector?
Faulty BIOS flash?

But I don't understand why it works with them both in channel A but not with any in channel B.

I might try just channel B.

Yeah, A1 and B1 are blue and A2 and B2 are white.

Just read the manual. Valid configs are when A1 + A2 = B1 + B2.

i.e. sticking both in A will work but is not ideal. Same for B.

I tried just having them in A2 and B2 but the system just did a long beep until I turned it off.

Have you tried upping the voltage?

Right, the problem is the memory on those boards can be set to linked or unlinked. If the memory is on linked at its putting them over stock speed, its probably also not giving them the correct volts and its not posting. You need to look in the BIOS and set it to 'Unlinked' and type in the '800' figure. It may say something like 'actua;' when you set them to 800 it may say 'actual' 850. If its anything over 800, you need to manually type the voltage in. For stock speed of 800, type 1.8, for 820 you need 1.9 and for anything between 820 and 850 you need 2.0. Personally wouldn't run them any faster than that, and that is exactly the same issue I have when using that ram on the Gigabyte Nvidia chipset board.
