Post subject: | MacBook MagSafe Power Adapter |
Hey guys, I just need some advice. My Power adapter for my MacBook has for some reason died. When the adapter stops charging my Macbook, I always assume it's overheated so I disconnect it for about 10 minutes and reconnect. This normally fixes the problem. But last night, it stopped working so I did my usual thing. When I plugged it back in, it still doesn't work. I've tried changing sockets (sometimes it works) but to no avail. I'm about to go buy a new fuse in case it's that, but any ideas why it's not working? Do I have to go to the Apple Store, or get Apple to replace it for me? ![]() Thanks. |

You'll be able to change the fuse yourself ![]() One thing to check first though, when you got your Mac you would have gotten two power sockets, one that clips right onto the brick, and another that extends the wire and then plugs into the wall. Have you checked with both? This should sort out whether it's the fuse or not. Check the wire for any melting (mine did that). Also, try wiggling the wire near the Mac around to see if it starts to charge again (I've found that the wire can break and you need to wiggle it to get it to reconnect inside the wire casing). Otherwise, it's a new fuse, then £60 for a new adaptor ![]() Ben |

I don't have the other power socket with me as I'm now living elsewhere (my stuff is still at home). I've wriggled the wire around a few times but nothing. Sometimes I can wriggle the wire about near the adapter and it works, but seems it's died completely. Gonna get a fuse and replace it and see if it works, otherwise I'll have to visit an Apple sTore for a replacement. (hopefully free - still on the applecare) |

Do you have a fuse in anything else, or anything taking a similarly rated fuse, you can swap it with? Also you can normally tell if a fuse is blown by the sound of it, much like lightbulbs. |

I've looked in all plugs but none have a fuse similar, I'll go buy some in Tescos in a bit so then I'll have some spare in case it dies again. And I wouldn't have heard it - I use headphones to listen to music ![]() |

Nooooo, take it out and flick it a bit and listen for bits flip-flapping about inside. ![]() |

Changed the fuse, and it's still dead. I've phoned my dad and asked if he could get mum to find this spare power socket thing I should have my laptop, and no reply from mum yet. If she doesn't find it, I'll have to go to an Apple Store and get a new one, or can I go via the site and get a new one via AppleCare? |

Got a new charger today at the Western Computers Apple store in Oxford. Had to buy a new one as they said it'd take up to 2 weeks to get to sent off to Bristol and get a new one, and I'm impatient so xD My laptop is now finally charging, yay. |
