Post subject:  HTPC boxes....

Hi all,

My next project is to update my HTPC. I will use a microATX board, probably the Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9400 HDMI which has a nice GeForce 9400 on it and lots of connectivity and optical out as well as analogue digital out.

The question is, what box? Top contenders at the moment are (in no particular order):

Antec New Solution NSK1480 or NSK2480
Tacens Aluminium HT or similar
Silverstone Grandia GD04 or GD05.

As I say, my mboard will have an onboard GPU which should be fine for now but I'd like the case to give me the option to add a full height / full length GPU card should the need arise in a year or two.

Does anyone have any other personal recommendations or think I've not looked at something quality?
I'm looking for something basic, brushed aluminium would fit in with the hifi, and I want as unfussy but stylish a finish as possible, ie the fewer flashing lights the better.

An issue is that my hifi/htpc unit is 46cm wide for each unit, and most of the cases seem to be around 41 to 44cm wide and all insist on a side fan/s. Ideally I'd get something with front and back fans for good airflow (hifi unit is backless) since side fans would be about 2 or at the most 3 cms away from a sidewall.

Thanks!

Diz

I could spend a ton, maybe one and a halfm perhaps more if it's really worth it.

Cool, many thanks for your help. I think I shall go for the Antec Fusion Remote Black.

I read a review that talked about the screen not being designed so well - it turns on at startup, and won't turn off or change until it receives commands from the controlling program within Windows, which also gives it the shut down command when you power off. I presume though that I can just not plug it in? I shan't use it anyway. Or the volume control, to be honest.

Thanks all,
Diz
