Ok folks I'm scratching my head. I have a load of tapes to transfer to DVD I have bought the relevant kit to transfer tapes to PC. So I end up with some large files could be mpg, could be wmv or vob. mpg is my preference purely to save time and effort to changing the format as they are created in mpg. When I play the files on the PC great no problems but when I burn the mpg files to DVD the sound goes out of sync. Any thoughts? Win 7 ultimate 64 bit. |

Alun, the way I did it was to buy an external DVD recorder. You can borrow it if you like |

By the time you load the video on to the PC in real-time then encode it for DVD and burn it it takes twice as long as pressing record on the dvd recorder & play on the video. |

OK I walked straight into that .  But how do you cope with putting menu's on etc? |

I haven't done this for absolutely years because I no longer use VHS or DVD, but sync problems were quite common. How much out of sync? Does it get progressively worse as the DVD plays? What sample rate did you use on the original audio rip? What resolution and frame rate is the original video rip? What frame rate and audio format is the resultant DVD? What are you using to encode the DVD? DVDs usually use an audio sample rate of 48K, while the 44.1K CD rate is more normal on a PC. Converting between the two can sometimes cause creep. It shouldn't, but it depends on the software you use. With AVIs in particular, the frame rate is inaccurately specified in the file header. Some software corrects for this better than others. Errors cause creep, so short clips are OK but long films are several seconds out by the end. The default for a lot of DVD software is American. If you're converting from 25fps to 29.98fps then that is another opportunity for timing errors. |

I'm using a package called VCR2PC doesn't appear to tell me the information you were requesting. http://www.ionaudio.com/vcr2pc If you have other suggestions happy to try. |
