When you say "these things", I assume you mean broadcasting from your own house is illegal? HomePlug kits are sold in every PC store in the country, so I doubt they're illegal.
I have heard about some wifi clashing with baby monitors before though.

It's not illegal to sell them, but it's illegal to use them in a typical dwelling. House mains wiring is not designed for carrying radio frequencies, and it's inevitable that emissions will occur at levels which significantly exceed those stated in the EMC Directive. Just because a shop sells something does not mean it's legal to use it. Industry is self-regulated, and it's up to the consumer to demonstrate that a product is unfit. There have been documented cases of HomePlug equipment being ordered removed from service, but taking legal action against the industry as a whole is far beyond the means of most individuals. _________________jonbwfc's law: "In any forum thread someone will, no matter what the subject, mention Firefly." If these ham operators want to listen to foreign radio stations and speak to people in other countries, why don't they just use the internets. They could even install homeplug so they can do so in every room of their home.

Ham operators have a licence that lets them use radio frequencies if they want. Best Beloved is a ham, and he's currently working on a system that will obliterate our broadband quite legally. Frankly, if you cause interference, whether accidentally or by using unlicensed transmitters, then Ofcom (I know, don't tell me) will come round and tell you off. We're still not connected. A small matter of some block paving the installers aren't keen on. We now learn they will be happy to continue installation early in the new year, provided we handle lifting and resetting the blocks.
