Post subject:  Migration help

Hi peeps

having a bit of a problem migrating from my current ISP (orange).I have the MAC but i can't get my line checked properly by my next ISP (sky).

The problem is that Sky have told me that because i'm not in their connection area that BT have to be notified so Sky can then check the line and then enable my connection.BT say that my details do not match their records  .It seems i have a different post code on the BT records, which means i can't get the line checked until the records are updated.

Simples i hear you cry :D Phone bt & tell them so they can update their records.

Simples i think and so ring up Bt & tell them to update their records.

Not simples Bt tell me because i am not a customer :x

I had taken the Orange phone(landline) & broadband package which included the line rental. Now i have tried ringing Orange but i keep losing the connection which quite frankly has driven me nuts :x

But having thought about it for a while it occurred to me that as the exchange is a BT exchange & both Orange & Sky are using the BT equipment in there it is up to BT to update their records so that Sky can check the line??

I should point out that both Orange & Sky say i'm outside their connection areas and are using the BT equipment in the exchange

So basically what i'm asking is who the hell should i be ranting too so i can get my bloody broadband sorted......

Because at the moment my connection i S H I T and i'm being charged a bloody fortune for it :x

thanks in advance for any help :D

Have you tried Ofcom?
Or local trading standards.

I know Ofcom get a bad press for their toothless regulation of the industry but in my experience once a regulator gets involved things move along fairly quickly.

unfortunately my experience in trying to use Ofcom to resolve an issue was that "it is outside of our remit". in other words "we do not get involved in individual cases."
Trading standards has more teeth. Or, more accurately, tells you where to find a sharp set which you can borrow.

Yes, I have to say I was mightily impressed when I used trading standards for something in the past.

+1, I found even just mentioning their name works wonders in some stores, and especially the dreaded DSG

Thanks for the replies :D

Looks like i've got some more phone calls to make to see if this can be sorted soon.......

Will give both Trading Standards & Ofcom a call and see how it goes.

As all the services aren't LLU you're on resold BT IPStream.
You're current providor should be able to get BT to update it's records.
If not PM me you're phone number & I'll see if our providors can do it (they talk straight to BTWholesale as well as managing their own broadband networks)

You still need a BT address match with LLU, because it's Openreach that does the line.

The curious thing here is that Orange managed to take over the line no problem, but Sky can't. Is there any reason why BTs records would have changed?

I presume Sky are taking over the line rental, and not just providing broadband? Since the line isn't with BT any more, the latter might be tricky without first migrating back to BT.

In a nutshell LLU means an ISP has their own kit in an exchange instead of reselling BT's service.
Expensive to do but means they can control their own dslam (don't ask) so should give a better service

Sorry JJ missed your post

I have since found that Orange have used the same post code as BT.
We have had 3 different post codes assigned to us over the years  which has led to the confusion....

You are correct in your assumption :D

So far no luck

If you PM me your address and phone number, I can do a BT address match. I have access to the relevant systems (I work for an LLU and BT Wholesale provider).
