Okay in response to a request here's what to do if you can't get your X server to happen because of a crap resolution (or, more probably, a crap monitor). Directions in dark red __________________________________________________________
At the Bootloader, select Failsafe. This should dump you at the command line (CLI).
Login with your normal username and password.
Type su and press return. Enter the root password (You will now have temporary root privileges)
Type sax2 and press return.
Ok - you should now be able to select the correct resolution.
Test the new setting to check it's ok and then Save it.
Once you save it you should end up back at the CLI.
Type exit and press return.
Type startx and press return.
You should now be in the realm of the GUI.
