Folks

My kids have been given vouchers for itunes.

Slight problem neither use iPlayers or iPhones they both use normal MP3 players.

Can iTunes be used on "normal" mp3 players?

If so How?

Cheers.

Alun

I would have thought that you can just download the songs you want using iTunes, covert them to MP3 (can be done in iTunes - export as MP3) and then manually transfer the MP3 files to your MP3 player in the normal manner?

Yes, it's a music organiser with a purchasing part attached to it. You don't need to have an ipod to use it, I think it's the best music app out there. I'd use it whatever mp3 player I had. A lot of people do say it's badly programmed for windows, but it's never caused me too many problems on my windows machines.

As long as you/they select the "unprotected" or DRM free versions of tracks (usually higher bit rate and more expensive), you should be able to use them with any player. Check to see if the player accepts the AAC format, many do (contrary to popular belief, AAC is not an Apple format, it was developed by Frauenhofer Institut, AT&T, Dolby and Sony in 1997 as a radio format to replace MP3, it is part 7 of the MP2 standard and part 4, subpart 3 of the MP4 standard - which is probably why Apple chose it, as they already used MP4 for video).

Converting the track to MP3 will degrade the quality a bit, as AAC and MP3 are both lossy formats and converting from one lossy format to another means that the quality degrades.

You will need to install iTunes on a computer and create an account to be able to purchase music. You can set up an account, at least here, without using a credit card or other payment service; I currently have Click and Buy as I didn't have a German credit card when I bought my iPod Touch. They also send a confirmation email with every purchase - although it can sometimes take a few hours to come through.
