I got one of these for Christmas this year, and just thought I'd post to say how great it is!

It's got two functions - an acoustic amplifier for your iPod/iPhone and a docking station.

If you're thinking of getting a dock, then I'd certainly recommend it - it's amasingly loud and really fills a room with sound! I use my iPhone as my alarm clock in the morning, so it's useful for that.

So yeah, it's certainly recommended!

Do newer iPod touches have an inbuilt speaker?

Yes, they do. I spend more time listening to the internal speaker of the iPhone / Touch than I do with headphones... The quality isn't good, but I can listen to podcasts in the car...
