Hi,

I look after, among other things, a LAN for a small business. 7 users, Outlook PSTs and all company data kept on the NAS. Far from ideal, I know, but what are you gonna do?
Recently I've noticed that the amount of data backed seems to be expanding at a very rapid rate. Around 30 gig of data is currently sent to the LTO3 Ultrium 800 every night.
Some days the increase is 40 megabytes every, but often it's up to 300 or 400 megs daily!

I do a daily backup of users' data from their My Docs & Desktop via an invisible automated backup program to the NAS so that their backups are included in the nightly backup. GFI (formerly Titan) Business Backup.
Yes, sometimes they take lots of photos of stock and upload them, and yes,7 people receive a lot of emails but I'm interested to know specifically what's increasing.

Is there a network tool that can keep track of all data and show daily /weekly /monthly trends? And more importantly, show the folders in which the increase in data occurs?
I could generate a daily file listing via a batch file with [dir /s>listing_mon.txt] but I have no analyzing tool.

Any bright ideas?

Diruse which is part of Microsoft's support tools will produce stats which would be easier to analyse in Excel with a bit of VBA. See here for examples.

Do the machines not have Treesize Lite on them? You can tell by right-clicking on <Start> (If Win XP machine) and it will be listed.

I recently spotted a server loosing disk space rapidly and it turned out to be a corrupt VirusDef folder from Symantec hiding under <Program Files> <Common>
