Morning all, A bit of a strange one for you to mull over , (yes I have tried google but maybe I am searching wrong.)
A Client/friend has bought a camera to take photo's at event's, Party's etc , now finds out the camera has no wifi (yea I know thats what I said.)
so its is now tethered to one mac and we would like to send the images across the room to another mac plus larger screen and a printer ,
so I know in windoze I can set up A: an access point and wireless network the two machines and set up a shared folder .B:set up a separate network so the 2 laptops can send receive also share folders .
Is this also possible with macs. :( :( :( :( ;)

Of course.... If the tethered camera is taking photos that are being imported directly into Aperture or iPhoto, they can be automatically be shared across any available network and then viewed in the same application on the other box. If you're not using either of those apps, just save the photos into the user's 'public' folder on the first mac and log into that folder from the second mac (the public folder is shared by default).

I didn't know about the iPhoto sharing feature because I don't use iPhoto, but I'd recommend the public folder option as outlined above.

Ok thanx .
Can i also set up a wireless network for just the 2 macs like in windows ,192.168.1.1 etc so they can see each other ,or using an access point.
;)

As long as the Macs are set up to use DHCP in System Preferences > Network (Ethernet or Airport) > TCP/IP then they should recognise each other on the network. Just make sure "Personal File Sharing" is ticked in System Preferences > Sharing and then drop files into the other Mac's Drop Box - or place them within your "Public" folder for the other Mac to grab.

Easiest way is to add them to iPhoto, and enable Photo Sharing in each iPhoto's preferences. Tick the "Look for shared libraries" check box.

I'd go with the shared folder as well.

Although Appeture and iPhoto will share the photos, if you need to copy them off, you need to first export them from the app, as opposed to just copying a file.

It isn't a big problem, but it is an additional step in the process. You could always do both and see which the user finds easier.

I'm not at my mac at the moment but I'm almost certain there is an adhoc setting in the network settings.

Either that or bonjour might be able to help.

Never done it myself without a router/switch doing the routing.

Setting up Wi-Fi
Creating an ad hoc wireless network is different from using FireWire or Ethernet but just as easy (see top screenshot;).

1. Click on the AirPort icon in your menu bar. From the AirPort menu, select Create Network.

2. Click on Show Options and encrypt the connection by entering a password as described in the dialog box.

3. Click on OK. The AirPort icon in the system menu bar changes to a little computer in a gray signal field.

4. Each user on your ad hoc network can now select the network that appears in his or her AirPort menu and enter the password you set.

That sounds a lot easier than it is on Windows :P
