Hey guys. We had a powercut last week, and it seems it's taken mine & the boyfriend's PCs out. We try to turn them on, but no power goes through them. I've changed power supply in mine and still nothing. Do you think it's the Motherboard? Or is it something else? |

Have you tested the plugs they are plugged into ? Simple and worth testing.  Good to see you by the way. |

Yup, tested every plug in the bedroom. Boyfriend's PC won't turn on but his monitor and speakers work in the same surge protector. I've tried my PC in that one and nothing. I can't get any power at all to go through my PC. I dunno if power supply is busted, but I've tried the old one which came with it (I recently put a new one in) and it still won't turn on. I've been looking online, and I've done basically everything they say - taking battery out, unpluging everything and checking the LED lights on mobo... (guess what, my mobo doesn't even have LEDs!). I'm guessing the mobo has gone boom to be honest. |

I see no mention of fuses having been checked / replaced. If there's been a spike as part of the power cut they may well have blown. |

I've changed a fuse in one power cable, and still nothing. I'm still guessing that my motherboard has died some how, but then the mobo is very old lol |

Try a power lead that you know works e.g. from a monitor or kettle |

Yes doesn't always work, but I usually open her up and have a sniff inside. I've lost older motherboards to power cuts in the past. If it stinks in there, chances are something got fried.... |

After 2 weeks of no luck (been using the dreaded dying Macbook) I decide to put my power supply back into the PC (the one I bought a month ago - and was the one in the PC when it died), and suddenly... it works.
