I can't be doing with Gnome and the pharisaic zeal that surrounds it

I'm no linux user but my "plan B" is a Linux DVD with kubunto ( sp? ) on it.

That would be KDE then. That's what the K stands for, in case you didn't know how to vote ;)

Other than that I'll get by with Gnome, though should find something more lightweight.
I quite liked CDE too...

Gnome all the way. Never got on with KDE and it, along with its associated applications have always been rather unstable. Gnome may not be pretty, but it sure is reliable.

The OpenSuse stall at FOSDEM has some 30" touch screen computers running the latest version. KDE looks very very shiny indeed!
