Hi all,

A client's AMD XP workstation has issues on starting up and shutting down. Not every time - if I'm there, for example, it usually works.
Sometimes it won't start up in the morning, and he has to take the power cable out of the PSU, wait a bit, plug it in, then retry and it mostly works then.
Sometimes it won't shut down. It blanks the screen after XP logs out, but the machine never powers off - it just sits there, no disk activity, no image on the screen.
A 5 second power button forces it off.

I've already swapped out the PSU, so it's not that.
What's the next thing to look at? MBoard? And how on earth do I diagnose that? (No testing equipment)

Thanks,
D

Try updating the BIOS.

I had a similar issue with a board that wouldn't reboot

If it is an AMD Athlon XP, it is getting a bit long in the tooth, it could be a failing power supply as well...

We've just had a couple go here...

It's an AMD but not an XP - it's about 18 months old, running an XP box.
I'll try updating the BIOS.

If it is a problem with the mboard, can anyone recommend any testing software?

Thanks for your suggestions.
