Post subject:  [SOLVED] Trouble booting on an ASUS P5Q Deluxe...

Hey guys, really could do with a hand here.

Just installed my new mobo (see title), and I can access BIOS and all my drives show up there, but just before I get there, it gives up an error saying there's no drive installed..

But yet the BIOS reads it and knows it's there.

But anyway, carry on, and try to boot into Windows, and I'd imagine just before the Win7 loading window appears, I get this message...

Code:
TRAP 00000030  ========================== EXCEPTION ==========================

tr=FFFF  cr0=00000000  cr2=00000000  cr3=00600060
gdt limit=007F  base=0001F000    idt limit=07FF  base=F0800000

cs:eip=0007:00000050  ss:eip=0060:00000018  errcode=0000
flags=00000000  NoCy NoZr IntDis Down TrapDis
eax=00000093  ebx=00000002  ecx=0000000D  edx=000003F4  ds=0002  es=6C10
edi=000287ED  esi=00000C0E  edp=00000BEA  ce0=00000000  fs=0030  gs=0030

And that's it, I have NO idea what this means, and so far Googling has come up blank...

Cheers in advance guys..

EDIT:

Also tried it with different RAM, and clearing the CMOS a few times, still no joy :/

Have you tried the optimized default setting?

Am I reading this all wrong, or are you trying a drive which already has Windows installed? Did you re-install Windows after having put your new M/B in?

If not, depending on whether you need to keep any data, I would either re-install Windows, or buy a new drive put Windows on that and then use the old srive as a data disk...

Okay, what I wanted to do was just copy a few things from the current install and put it onto my other drive before I installed windows. But, I can't, because every time I try to boot from CD, the screen loses the connection and goes into stand-by.

my laptop did the same thing.
i was planning to just install windows 7 on the empty patioton, move stuff across from the vista partition then, format the vista partion. but when i installled windows 7 on the empty partition i could not see the vista patrition in w7.
had to move all the stuff of vista using a 8gb flash drive bit by bit.

Surely if he has the space in his case, hard drives are cheap enough now that he could treat himself to a new one, and once Windows is installed use the old drive as a data disk?

Do you people actually enjoy making life more difficult for yourselves? ;) :P

There's not an issue with space....just funds...

But I can't boot normally, due to the screen appearing in my first post, and I can't boot from the CD due to the screen losing connection...

I've asked some people to see if I can borrow a VGA cable and see if that helps.

Post subject:  Re: Trouble booting on an ASUS P5Q Deluxe...

could it be an issue with AHCI?

if you ran the old mother board with AHCI on/off, you must run the new one with the same setting, else it will get very angry and spit its dummy out. with my IP35 i found that i could just change the setting, and it ran fine in IDE emulation mode, till i installed the proper drivers, but not all boards are the same ya'know :(

Yeah, the motherboard came with like 10 SATA cables, tried most of them, and before that, tried the cables from the old mobo...

And Soddit, I'm not sure what my old mobo ran, I'll have a look and see what happens when I play with the settings.

It must be said guys, you've been a LOT more helpful that over at B-T, didn't get any replies....

Cheers is in order then :)
