Apple have changed the iPad page to remove the Pricing tab that was previously there!

They have also apparently announced a release date of late April but I can't see it anywhere on the site.

Will be interesting to see the UK price!

In the US it's an early April release date date for the Wi-Fi enabled version only, with late April to follow for all versions.

Yes it will but I guess that they will try and get the US orders under control before they start selling abroad. There have been rumours of production problems.

Hmm.. http://www.apple.com/uk/ipad used to have a 'price' tab that gave you the US price and said something along the lines of 'UK prices will be announced closer to release'. That tab seems to have disappeared.

I'm wondering if there'll be decent educational discount .

Bit of a bummer that we don't get the WiFi-only versions before the 3G like they do in the US. I'm abroad for a couple of weeks in early April and was looking forward to spending the time having a proper play with one

Leo Laporte over on the TWiT network is giving one away.

He was talking about the Conan O'Brien effect on a Twitter account and they picked a random address on the show, @lisatickledpink, who only had 2 followers, tag line "I hate technology" and gave the address out on the show. Within seconds, she had over 2,000 followers - before somebody noticed that she had e-mail notifications turned on! He will give away a free iPad to a random follower on the day of release. And, because she is being inundated with followers, he will be sending her an iPad as well, to say sorry...

The Gadget Show on C5 are giving away an iPad along with a big pile of other stuff in their competition this week. You'd assume that will also be 'when it shows up' - possibly their review unit after they've finished with it .

If anyone wants to enter, the details are here. Its far from cheap to enter though - they have to fund all the gadgets they give away some how I suppose.

As for the competition it probably pays for itself. £28 000 worth of goodies. double that because of BT getting their share, so £56000 of calls needed at £1.50 so they probably only need 30000 callers to make it pay for itself. They probably get double that so probably make that sort of money if not more per episode.

@listtickledpink is a technophobe and she landed on the front page of Digg and is doing a radio interview tomorrow morning.

She seems to have kept her humour, given the inundation of messages she has received.

Walking back this evening I was thinking about what you'd need a computer for if you had an iPad. The only things I could think of were firmware/OS updates, and backing up.

Now the former could possibly be done via a software update, possibly insisting that the iPad be connected to a power source for the duration. My other thought was that an iPad could backup to a Timecapsule. Any thoughts?
