Hi guys,

I bought a cheap and cheerful graphics card on eBuyer a while back for a basic PC. It says on the box it's a Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 512MB DDR2 (will do minesweeper at well over 30fps). I never got around to installing the thing and found it a couple of days ago, and decided to sling it in my home PC to see if it worked.

My normal graphics card is a HD 4650 and is correctly identified by Windows and all the rest.

This "new" card does work. But Windows and GPU-Z tell me it's actually a HD 4350 (4300 series), so even minesweeper at high resolutions may be out of the question :o The PCI ID is 1002 - 954F which google points at a 4350. The memory clock matches that of the HD4350.

Is there a chance this is a driver issue or have I just spent too much on a wrongly marketed item? :x

Only other one to try would be sisoft sandra
http://download.cnet.com/SiSoftware-Sandra/3000-2086_4-10556571.html but I doubt it will report anything different to be honest.

I doubt it too. Oh well.

Out of sheer curiosity, I gave it a shot at Left 4 Dead, to my surprise it was fully playable at 1440*900 at max settings  flying blood-spatters and all!

I've taken it out now anyway, and put the very small beast back in for Modern Warfare 2. That would probably have been a test too far for the poor thing :(

Have you complained that the graphics card you were supplied was not as described?

Even private sellers (e.g. second-hand sales) are bound by how they describe the goods.

I'll give it a go, but it was bought a few months ago, so I'm not optimistic.

I'd still kick off. Even just to vent. :D
