A mate of mine had an idiot in to look at his computer and he installed XP Pro without asking and it is of course a non-legit copy. I want to restore the system to XP Home with the minimum fuss (which there is a legitimate license key for)
Is there any way to revert to XP Home or run XP Home install without having to reformat and reinstall. If it comes to it, I can reformat and reinstall- that isn't a problem, it's a question of time and minimum disruption if that is at all possible.
I only have a few mins to spare right now, otherwise I'd Google it, but in the mean-time can anyone give me some solid advice? Ta.

AFAIK it is clean install time...

I thought that was the most likely outcome. Ta.

It's not just time and trouble, there is also the possibility that this non-legit copy of XP Pro might have installed "something else" on the system, which is not meant to be there... Yes, I am referring to viruses, rootkits and other bad things.
Wipe and re-install from me.
I wonder how long before someone tells me that they've never paid for, (their copy of) Windows and have never had a virus?
