Doesn't have much of a life

Weirdly my computer freezes and locks up (so I have to turn it off by the power button) under the following circumstances:
If I load up Sibelius 6 (happens with Sibelius 5, but not 4) and the computer makes any other sound whilst Sibelius is loading all the sound stuff it needs... This includes clicking links on Chrome and getting that click noise, to the sound that I get when I receive an email and even to getting a message over MSN.
If the computer makes no other noise, it doesn't crash.
I've reinstalled x-fi titanium drivers.
Anyone got any idea?

have you tried changing the 'exclusive mode' settings in control panel?
