Post subject:  I just got an iMac for £15!
Well, a mate called me on Wednesday and told me there were Macs for sale in the local paper...He gave me the number, I called it and liked what I heard, an iMac for £30!
My mate picked it up for me today, here are some pictures clicky. Even better, they guy gave my mate two as he wanted to get rid of them! Two for £30!

It's an iMac G3 (350MHz), it has 256MB of RAM and a 20GB hard drive! Comes with a fresh install of Tiger, though I'm thinking of downgrading it to 10.3 to speed it up a tad...

Well chuffed, I won't get to play with it until sometime in May when I go back to Aber next though :(

Congratulations on that. Even if the G3 is ancient, £15 for a working and perfectly usable computer is a great price

Indeed, my mate has been playing with it and it looks like the second revision of the first generation (summer 2000). Nine years old! :shock:

I sold it.

In fact I sold both my G3 iMacs including the original Bondi Blue one.

The new flat screen machines are nice but somehow they don't have the G3 charm.

The G3 I bought from you ChurchCat was my first Mac. I believe it was yours too???

I sold it a while ago, but it served me well.

A G3 imac was my first mac too.

There are some cheap G4 emacs on eBay at the moment - untested but for £20, I might see if I can get lucky. Old Macs are always fun to play around with.

I've been talking to CC, about the OS thing...I think I'll stick with Tiger for the time being...But if I can get hold of the disks, having a play with System 8/9 might be quite fun!

No reason not to have both on the machine I suppose. Or put another OS on an external disc.

Oooo, a dual boot system...Only thing is, I seem to recall reading System 9 needed a low firmware version and 10.4 needed a higher one...
