Lo childs,

I'm looking to get me an external FW800 equipped hard drive enclosure as the one I currently have has died (but the drives are fine).
At the moment I have my eye on one of these.
Has anyone used that place to order bits 'n' bobs? Is it any good?
I'm suspecting I can probably find a UK distributor if I have a good look around, but if not I'd like to know what this place is like as I've never used 'em before.

Failing that, if anyone knows of a decent place where I can get what I want (it doesn't have to fit two drives, by the way) then please let me know below.

Mark

Do they ship international? Some US companies won't ship overseas.

Also, does it have to be RAID?

If it's two bay I'd ideally like it to be RAID, but it's not essential.
The drives I have are PATA but I'm not averse to having to get me some SATA drives.
I've just been looking at this one with a view to getting a 1 or 2TB drive for it.
What I'm after doesn't have to be portable, but that easily fits my requirements of having FW800 on it.

NB. Mr. Ark: 2.5" drives generally spin slower (= slower piccie copying speed), come in smaller capacities, and are pricier per GB than 3.5" drives, so portability may be something to avoid if you don't need it.

Bugger, I never realised they were 2.5".
The perils of posting whilst at work I guess.
Ah well, scratch those from the shopping list then.

I'm looking for 3.5" enclosure/s to for clarification.

Cheers Didge, I actually saw that one while browsing last night.
Has anyone used that 'site before to buy stuff? Good/bad experiences?

Expansys? I've bought the odd bit & piece and a phone or two off them in the past and they've always been fine. Nothing in the past year mind.

So, do you have to put drives in the enclosure and do they have to be same size?

In the Expansys enclosure linked to above yes, you do need to put drives in it and no, they don't have to be the same capacity, just as long as each drive is SATA.

Oops, I meant to say did you have to put 2 drive in the enclosure or can you just put one in and add another at a later date for instance.
I gathered it was a bare enclosure I was just wondering how flexible it was.

I think it needs two drives to work.
The controller in the enclosure then spans the drives to give you one big volume. I'm not sure this can be overridden.
